Day trip to Rotorua

Rotorua is only 90 min from Katikati and the trip makes an excellent day outing.

There are three routes that can be taken and all three offer completely different scenery.

Route 1

From Katikati drive to Bethlehem and at the round about turn right. This road takes you to an intersection ( T section ) at the main road. Turn right and you are on your way on a great road that takes you right over the top of the Kaimai Ranges. Once just over the top is a look-out. Stop and have a view, for miles and miles of the Waikato. Carry on down and at the bottom of the Ranges is a left turn to Rotorua. Here you drive through farm land and follow the signs to Rotorua. Once on the road to Rotorua you drive up and over the Mamaku Ranges. A wonderful drive and take in the Fitzgerald Glade. You will know it when you drive through it. Then on to Rotorua. This route takes you over two vastly different ranges with fantastic views.

Once in Rotorua there are many things to see and do. Too many to mention here but we do have more info at Kaimai view.

The return journey, we suggest driving back from Rotorua via Ngongataha and then back to Katikati. This route takes you through the Kaimai's rather than over the top. It is winding but you will get a completely different view and drive and also an appreciation of the rugged terain and deep gorges.

The third route is via Tauranga and Te Puke on the east coast and is a free wheeling ride straight to the western shores of Rotorua Lake. Easy driving but without the unique landscape's.
