The shores of Tauranga harbour were largely treeless in the days of the early European settlement and the Gerald Crapp Historic Reserve  represents the legacy of one pioneering family. Magnificent views of the harbour and Matakana Island can be obtained from the 2 ha reserve, which includes splendid mature trees including a Morton Bay Fig. The reserve is the site of the Wai Huri Pa, of historic importance to the Waharoa Maori people.

The reserve is part of a walk which may begin at the Omokaroa Beach Domain, at the end of The Esplanade. Walk along the beach and follow the track up to the historic reserve on the headland. The track continues around the point and along the clifftop esplanade reserve , in front of the residential area, to Bramley Drive. From here you may return the same way or along the residential streets.

Omokoroa Peninsular offers a range of options for walking circuits around the residential street, through small reserves and along the beaches. Other popular options include accesses off Waterview tce and from the southern end of Hamurana Rd, Which both drop down to the western harbour foreshore. From here follow the beach past the golf coarse and onto Kaylene Pl. Cooneys reserve, on Margaret Pl, leads down to the harbour on the eastern side of the peninsula. Following the foreshore nortwards, along the tracks provided, eventually brings you to the southern end of The Eslanade.
